Readers

Ministry in Bath & Wells is supported by around 370 active Readers (lay ministers).

On a typical week Readers preach over 100 sermons and lead, or help lead ,over 200 services.

Readers also have a significant pastoral role - visiting people in their homes, taking communion to the housebound, and working in our schools and colleges. There are over 100 such visits every week.  Some Readers work with the bereaved and also lead funerals.

If you are considering this vital calling, see our Reader training pages for more information and details of who to contact to answer your questions.

Annual Reader Return

Readers are granted special permission to officiate by the Bishops. As a part of this Readers must complete an Annual Return. This document helps Readers reflect on their ministry, including activities and training undertaken that year.
