Weston vicar invites tweets during sermons

Monday 6th February 2012

Every Sunday during his sermon, Reverend Andrew Alden, Vicar of St Paul's Church in Weston-super-Mare invites people to "tweet" him as he preaches.

The aim is to enage with young adults and young people within the church, making his sermons more interactive by dealing with questions and points raised while he talks.  Tweets are displayed on a large television screen while services are underway.

Andrew says, "The Hebrews had the written word, the Romans built roads, the reformers had the printing press. I feel social media is God's gift to the church today to get the message out to as wide an audience as possible."
