£1.2 million expansion for Yeovil church school
Sunday 15th January 2012
A £1.2 million expansion project for a Yeovil Church school starts today (16 January).
A new classroom block at Holy Trinity Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School will provide room for four extra classes and will give a new home to another class presently in a temporary building. It will allow the school will grow over a number of years from its present 303 pupils to 420.
Headteacher Teresa Wheeler who has been at the school for five years explained the extra places were needed because on an underprovision in that part of Yeovil which meant that schools were turning children away.
“This is really good news for the children, for the school and for the area,” she said. “I am really very excited. I am particularly pleased for the children of Yeovil. This is a very good school with good Ofsted results and parents want to send their children here.”
The project is being funded by Somerset County Council in partnership with the Diocese of Bath and Wells. Contractors are Morgan Sindall and the new block is expected to be ready by September 2012.
The school has already enlarged its hall and kitchen to cater for the increased numbers. The new block will also house another hall which will be available for community use.
